Do you know your ideal customer? Your ideal customer is the person who you dream about selling your product or services to. They are the customer you see when you envision your business taking off and surpassing all of your biggest goals.
They are the reason you started your business! So let’s dig deeper into who they are. SKIMMERS! If you are not planning on reading this post skip to the end and download your free ideal customer worksheet because it’s super important!
Your ideal customer is likely a past version of yourself. They are someone who needs your expertise, someone whose problems you can solve. BUT, it’s not good enough to just know how your spiritual business can help your ideal customer.
You should also know your ideal customer’s hobbies, their likes, their dislikes, and what keeps them awake at night. You should know their family members, their shoe size, what makes their hearts leap with joy, and their favorite food. Am I losing you yet? Do you think I’m losing my mind yet?
I’m Not Crazy
I’m not losing my mind (well not about ideal customers at least) I am simply helping you understand everything you need to know to connect with your ideal customer. If you have been following my blog or my social media, I am sure you have heard me talk about the 80/20 rule by now.
If you haven’t, the 80/20 rule says that you should share valuable content and personal stories 80% of the time and only sell your product or service 20% of the time. I realized something last month. I hardly told any personal stories.
I didn’t violate the 80/20 rule, so that’s a good thing, but I probably shared 95% educational content about social media management and content creation and 4% selling with only one or two personal posts.
That’s a huge mistake! Your ideal clients want to feel connected to you on a personal level. That’s what takes them from lurker, to someone who is willing to reach out and have a conversation.
You. Have. To. Get. Personal.
So do I. This is where getting to know the personal aspects of your ideal client comes into play. A HUGE part of selling yourself is building your know like and trust factor. Once your audience knows, likes, and trusts you, all you have to do is show your value, and they will jump at the chance to hire you.
When you know your ideal customer’s fears, their hobbies, and all the other details about their lives (we call that psychographics), you can create opportunities to build upon that know like and trust factor.
If you haven’t noticed, I’m pretty into horses. They are my life. I started this business so I can afford to rescue more horses. Guess what? Many of my ideal clients love horses too. So, I was an idiot last month for not sharing any horse stories!! That will change this month I promise.
Here’s an Example
Imagine for a second that you own a spiritual coaching business. You are frustrated with your social media. It is sucking up all your time and not bringing you any new clients.
You come across my Instagram. I am posting about the spiritual journey I’m on with my horse. You comment on a few, and we get to know each other. It turns out you’ve always dreamed of working with horses. How cool!
Then I post a few educational posts. You implement my techniques and notice that your posts are getting more engagement than normal. A few days later, I launch an Instagram coaching program and advertise it in a post.
You can’t wait to join the program because you know you will work well with me (spirituality + horses love = best friends… duh!) you have seen that my techniques work, and I can solve a problem that you have.
Do you see how identifying your ideal customer and creating content that speaks to them can help you get clients from social media?
It’s so important!! If you are thinking, “yes I see it, and I see how you did it, but I have NO IDEA where to start for my own business” I’ve got you covered. Download my free ideal customer worksheet below to identify your dream clients.
